Travel and Adventure
A journey narrative is more than a line from departure to arrival. It selects moments that test a traveller, uses setting as an active force, changes pace to direct attention, and reflects on how the traveller understands risk or belonging. This unit develops close reading of suspense, sound, spatial detail, poetic voice, and factual adventure accounts. Language work covers prepositions, participial phrases, tense shifts, and the difference between chronological sequence and narrative pacing. You will compare a private narrative with a concise field report, write a scene that slows at a decisive moment, deliver a responsible oral recount, and examine how adventure writing can respect local knowledge rather than presenting a landscape as empty.
